NC Teacher Recognized in Google Earth Competition
As I am from North Carolina, I would like to brag on one of our area teachers for winning the Ancient Rome 3D Curriculum Competition. Amy Rechtiene of Lake Norman High School in Mooresville, North Carolina won in the Grades 9-12 division. Her lesson was A Tour of Rome Fit for an Emperor.
I find it really cool that educators are taking advantage of such an awesome technology. Google Earth has some incredible benefits for classroom use. Finding a way to inform teachers of these uses is the current challenge. A competition like Google’s is a great way to get the word out about GIS. The only limit that teachers have in using GIS in the classroom is their imagination and their desire to learn the direct applications of the Geospatial Technology.

Mr. Hales,
I just wanted to thank you for your lovely blog post. The ancient Rome layer in google earth is such an amazing tool and I wish it existed when I was a student. I love incorporating technology into my classroom and I feel it is especially important to a subject like Latin where you are studying a culture that is over 2,000 years old. Thanks once again!
Sincerely,
Amy Rechtiene
