I have been searching diligently to find some information on the SkillsUSA Geospatial Technology Competition.  One of my Twitter friends @MattFaulkner brought this competition to my attention and just reading the general information that I could find really excited me.  As I am graduating this spring with a degree in Geospatial Technology, I figured that this might be my only opportunity for such a competition.  As I researched further, I found a few of the winners through Google but not much beyond that.  The two main sites that I have pulled information form are:

Although these sites give some general information about the competition, I am not finding what to expect.  I want to know if this competition is for me.

  • Do I have the skill level to even be competitive?
  • Is this something that is truly worth traveling 1000 miles for?
  • What are the benefits of this competition?
  • What will I be able to take away from it?
  • Will this help me in my future career?
  • Where do I begin?

I have addressed similar concerns on The GIS Forum and have had little feedback.  The lack of respnse makes me question the level of this competition.  Is this something that the whole industry knows about or is there a lack of interest altogether?  Are there any experience stories out there?  I am looking to find any informative data that will help me to make an adequate decision.  Thanks and I will keep the blog updated with my progress.
