West Virginia Puts GIS in K-12 Education
I just came across a blog post by VerySpatial informing that the K-12 schools in West Virginia are getting a 3 year license for ESRI software. Since this is unoffical news, the extent of the software availability is unknown.
I personally think this is an awesome opportunity. GIS has great potential as a learning tool in the K-12 classroom. Just look at the NC Teacher that was Recognized in Google Earth Competition. She was able to make application using Google Earth. Now just think at what can be done with such powerful software as ArcGIS. If more school systems took advantage of placing GIS in the K-12 classrooms then I believe a lot more students would graduate from high school looking to get into a geospatial career. Colleges that offer GIS would see more students taking advantage of this growing industry. Way to go West Virginia!
