Timothy at the ZooMy name is Timothy Hales.  I work full time for a public school system as a planning project manager.  When I took this position, I knew nothing about GIS.  I was overwhelmed by the ArcGIS software on my computer, but was told that my main focus was to learn it.  By the time I attended my first training course a month later, I knew 95% of the material being taught. Since then, my formal training at Central Piedmont Community College has challenged me to go above and beyond the average requirements. The basics are a good starting point, but if I want to excel in my industry then I must challenge myself to always have a learning mentality and give more than expected. And as you can see, I feel confident with the Geospatial Technology topic far beyond those first days.  I am the developer of GIS Pathway and also a co-founder of The GIS Forum.

Education

In addition to my full time work, I am also a student at East Carolina University in the B.S. Business Education - Information Technology Degree Program.  I graduated in the spring of 2009 from Central Piedmont Community College through the A.A.S. Geospatial Technology Degree Program. Within this program I have earned the following certificates:

  • Geospatial Technology Certificate - GIS
  • Geospatial Technology Certificate - Advanced Geospatial Specialist
